(over(over))bound
collective translation, 2026
(over(over))bound is an eightfold, multilingual translation of overbound– a found poem composed from a (mis)translation of a Facebook post written in a transport-sharing group for the ex-Yugoslav region:
“Tražim prevoz iz Prijedora do Rogaške Slatine ili Ptuja 1 juna što ranije ujutru.”
In the mistranslation), a Bosnian town became “a part of somebody,” and a Slovenian “far from a part of the morning.” The one in need of transport then moves from a part of somebody to (far from) a part of the morning, where the two parts are not the same. To me, “overbound” is about leaving and arriving (without ever leaving or arriving), about welcoming our belonging in the never (or parts thereof).
overbound is translated by eight artists / poets / translators with linguistic roots in BCMS, and living elsewhere. Each artist translated the poem into a language they frequently speak in their current arrivals.
And so, overbound became (over(over))bound, and in this binding, partly and partially, our somebodies multiplied and our mornings multiplied, until we––in our multiplicity––spoke through each other and with each other.
